Meanings of Different Colored Roses

There has always been meanings associated with the different colored roses, this has played a large role in roses being distributed as the most popular flower to give as a gift or sign of appreciation. There is a subtle language behind the giving of roses, and if you are not aware of the meanings you can really be sending the wrong message to the wrong person, or worse unaware of the messages someone is sending you through roses.

  • RED roses are known to be a display of love, or passion. Roses that are any type of red are known to state “I Love You”
  • PINK roses have traditionally been used to display sympathy, often as a gift of good will, or as a gift given such as a “get well soon” rose basket.
  • DARK PINK roses however are more often given as a way of saying “Thank You” and can symbolize a very platonic relationship.
  • LAVENDER roses are known as a symbol for love at first sight.
  • WHITE roses have been a symbol for spiritual love and purity. White roses can also signify innocence and have been known to have a religious significance.
  • YELLOW roses are the roses for friends, they are the ideal gift for someone you care deeply for but have no romantic feelings for.
  • PEACH roses have been known to indicate modesty.

With all of the different meanings and things that can be said through the giving of roses it is important that the person who receives them is able to understand the message that has been sent. Many times a card or set of balloons will accompany a bouquet of roses to help signify the meaning behind them, something as simple as a heart on a card that accompanies the bouquet or a balloon with a graduate cap on it can really help take the guess work out for the person who is receiving the flowers, and help the person sending them be sure their message delivered.
